Firmware and Reset Files

Your Advantage360 Pro comes programmed with the latest firmware version available as of its factory build date. However, updates are regularly released to address bugs and introduce new features. You can either customize the firmware from GitHub or access "Factory Default" firmware and Quick Configs from this page. The firmware update process on the 360 Pro differs significantly from other Kinesis keyboards. Step-by-step firmware flashing instructions can be found at the top of the page.

Legacy Quick Config Firmware Files (NEW Files Featuring Jan 2024 Connectivity Enhancements): If you're seeking a quick way to enable legacy layouts like PC Mode, Mac Mode, or Dvorak, download one of these firmware files and follow the instructions above to flash the keyboard. Note that these files are not customizable.

GitHub Merge Conflicts: Migrating a custom layout from Firmware branch 2.0 to 3.0

Releasing new firmware may come with an unfortunate temporary downside, as it can occasionally introduce "breaking changes" that necessitate users to reconstruct custom layouts on the updated branch. We understand the frustration associated with this, and strive to minimize such updates. The recent V2.0 update and the latest V3.0 branch have brought about alterations in the keymap files, leading to merge conflicts for individuals updating with custom keymaps.

Discover effective strategies for handling merge conflicts at this link: https://github.com/KinesisCorporation/Adv360-Pro-ZMK/blob/V3.0/UPGRADE.md

How do I set the startup Bluetooth Profile on my keyboard?

The "startup" Profile (White, Blue, Green, Red) is automatically "preserved" whenever the keyboard enters sleep mode after the default 30-second timeout. To modify the default Profile, just use the Mod + 1-5 command to switch to the desired Profile and allow the keyboard to naturally go to sleep (avoid powering it down).

In Wired mode, the Profile becomes inconsequential, as keystrokes are consistently transmitted over USB to the connected device. Nonetheless, we advise toggling to Profile 5 to deactivate the blinking Profile LED.

How should I charge my keyboards batteries?

The Advantage360 Pro features a customized rechargeable lithium-ion 1500 mAh battery. Connect each module to your PC using the provided charging cables. A full charge typically requires 6-8 hours, and when connected to a power source, the keyboard operates on USB power. The batteries are designed to last for 3+ years, depending on the frequency of charging, and like all batteries, their maximum capacity diminishes over time. Replacement batteries will be available for purchase in the future.

Charging and Safety:

For optimal results, directly connect the keyboard modules to a USB-A port on your PC. Avoid connecting them to a wall charger, power brick, or monitor port, as these methods can damage the battery, void the warranty, and potentially compromise safety.

Battery Life:

Battery usage varies among users and depends on settings. To extend battery life, consider dimming the backlighting using the command Mod + Down Arrow or turning off the backlighting entirely with Mod + Enter. Charge the battery only when necessary to maximize its lifespan, as the battery has a finite number of charge cycles.

To check the current battery charge level, use the command Mod + Hotkey 4, and the indicator LEDs will display the status of each battery. (Note: It is normal for the left side to need more frequent recharging)

  • Green: More than 80%
  • Yellow: 51-79%
  • Orange: 21-50%
  • Red: Less than 20% (Charge soon)

Note: Windows 11 battery level functionality is not currently supported.

Battery End of Life:

All Lithium-Ion batteries, including those used in the Advantage360 Pro, eventually reach their end of life. The battery will cease holding a charge, and in some cases, it may expand, pressing the keyboard case apart. If you observe the battery expanding, cease use, turn off the power switch, and contact Kinesis immediately. We recommend replacing the battery every three years for maximum safety and performance.

For more detailed information on battery specs and safety, please refer to section 8.5 of the User Manual above.

Which version of firmware should I run?

We advise using the latest branch (the one with the highest number if multiple branches are available) and the most recent firmware version to keep your fork synchronized, ensuring you benefit from the latest features and fixes. In January 2024, a significant firmware update was introduced to the 3.0 branch, addressing longstanding issues with connectivity between the keyboard and PC, as well as between the left and right modules. If you've encountered connectivity problems, it is recommended to update your keyboard to the latest version.

Periodically, a new "beta" branch may be introduced, incorporating experimental features. After these features undergo field testing, they are integrated into the main branch.

For additional details on branches and a comprehensive changelog, you can refer to the following link: https://github.com/KinesisCorporation/Adv360-Pro-ZMK/blob/V3.0/CHANGELOG.md

How do I switch between Windows, Mac, and PC mode, or Dvorak?

The Advantage360 no longer features the Thumb Key Modes and the included Dvorak layout. However, users can still customize any keys across various layers according to their preferences.

For those who prefer not to delve into customizing the keyboard on Github, Quick Config files are now provided below to access Mac Mode, PC Mode, and Dvorak. It's important to note that these files are not customizable. If further customization of your layout is desired, you'll need to construct it from the ground up.

Please be aware that the Quick Config files offer predefined configurations for specific modes and layouts and cannot be altered for additional customization.

How do I remap a key or create a macro?

The Advantage360 Pro does not support onboard programming and is specifically designed for power-users only. Remaps and Macros can be created by establishing a GitHub account and subsequently editing the keyboard configuration files on GitHub or by utilizing our Keymap Editor. GitHub will generate custom firmware files tailored to your settings and layout, which must then be flashed directly to the keyboard. For comprehensive instructions, please refer to the complete User’s Manual.

It's important to note that ZMK supports basic text string macros of up to 64 characters.

How do I update my keyboard after making changes on GitHub?

Every time you update your keymap with new remaps or macros, or utilize the Keymap Editor GUI, it is necessary to download a new set of left and right firmware files from GitHub. Subsequently, these files must be flashed to the corresponding keyboard modules. Detailed step-by-step instructions are provided at the top of the page for guidance.

You can explore the full list of supported actions here: ZMK Supported Actions

Please note that when incorporating media actions, use the consumer media tokens that begin with "C_" rather than the keyboard tokens that start with "K_". Additionally, be aware that not all actions are supported on all operating systems.

How do I get F13-F24 and/or the International keys to work?

By default, this keyboard has NKRO (N-Key Rollover) enabled; however, for compatibility reasons, the higher ranges are not enabled. If you wish to use F13-F24 or the INTL1-9 keys with NKRO enabled, you can make the following modification:

Change CONFIG_ZMK_HID_KEYBOARD_EXTENDED_REPORT=n to CONFIG_ZMK_HID_KEYBOARD_EXTENDED_REPORT=y in adv360_left_defconfig.

After making this change, "commit the changes" and flash the new firmware to your keyboard. This adjustment allows you to utilize the specified keys with NKRO enabled.

No. The Freestyle keyboard is not programmable. If you are looking for a programmable split keyboard, checkout the Freestyle Pro.

Will the Freestyle2 PC work on my Mac?

The hotkeys on the left side of the Freestyle will only function with the specific operating system it was designed for. If you connect a PC Freestyle2 to a Mac, the hotkeys won't operate as intended. However, as a workaround, you can interchange Ctrl with Command in the operating system:

  1. Navigate to System Preferences/Keyboard/modifier keys (ensure the selected device is for the Freestyle keyboard, KB800PB).
  2. Swap Ctrl with Command.

Now, the hotkeys will function as intended. Additionally, this adjustment will cause the individual Ctrl keys to behave as Command keys, aligning more logically with Mac functionality.

Do I need to install any software or drivers?

No, the Freestyle keyboard is identified by the operating system as a standard USB device, leading to the automatic loading of the default keyboard driver on the operating system. The Freestyle2 keyboard is plug-and-play.

Can I plug the Freestyle2 for Mac into the USB port of the Freestyle2 keypad?

No, and the reverse is also not possible. Both the FS2 keyboard for Mac and the FS2 keypad come equipped with USB ports, and you cannot connect a hub to another hub unless the latter has an external power supply.
